7.2.2.5. Natural selection

The Hardy–Weinberg principle appears to state that the population does not evolve in its genetic makeup. However, we know this is not true. The previous result is based on restrictive assumptions:

– there is no mutation: an allele of a gene does not transform into another allele, just as a gene does not multiply;

– marriages occur at random without preference factors;

– the population remains in a vacuum: there are no new individuals who arrive or individuals who disappear;

– the population is considered infinite or at least very significant in number;

– there is no natural selection: all alleles have the same ability to survive in their environment (fitness).
